This extensive cleaning initiative is the first of many environmental actions D-Marin will be running in 2025. An impressive 467kg of underwater debris was removed, thanks to 37 divers and a 20-strong support team. D-Marin is working closely with the Emirates Diving Association to inspire change and eradicate pollution in the UAE marine environment.

Emirates Diving Association has run the ‘Cleanup Arabia’ campaign since 1995. This is a voluntary initiative to enhance the UAE's dive sites and beaches through a collaborative approach. It is part of the Clean Up The World Programme that is promoted and managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The underwater clean up at Marsa Al Arab follows a similar activity held in late 2024 at D-Marin’s Port de la Mer marina which removed 565kg of debris. The cleanup involved a team of 75 volunteers, consisting of 60 professional divers and 15 volunteers for surface support.

Selcuk Balci, Managing Director at D-Marin Dubai, said: “One of the most important features of a marina is being a positive contributor to the local community and the environment. This is why our ongoing partnership with Emirates Diving Association is such an important commitment to us. It benefits the whole community of Dubai, the ocean environment, and our marina customers. We have many more ESG projects to come in 2025, setting a new standard of sustainability in marinas.”
