Winners of the CRO ORC D-Marin National Championship declared

November, 9

The CRO ORC D-Marin National Championship was held over the course of three days, from Friday, November 5, until Sunday, November 7, in the waters off Šibenik. The sailing crews rose to the occasion despite the challenging weather conditions.

On Friday, the crews completed an offshore race between the islands in the Šibenik archipelago as the wind had not been either stable or strong enough to set up the planned buoy course. Despite the wind-related issues, the competitors managed to complete almost the entire length of the race. To obtain the results, the Race Committee had to shorten the course and move the finish line, which all fifteen boats then crossed successfully.

There was no sailing on Saturday as the bora reached speeds of over thirty knots and was accompanied by heavy rain. However, the weather on Sunday proved to be kind to the competitors, who successfully completed two windward-leeward races in the consistent light mistral.

The organizers declared winners in two separate classes, ORC A and ORC B, while the overall scores were used to calculate points for the CRO ORC D-Marin Cup’s rankings.

After combining the points from the three races, the ORC A class ranking was topped by the X-Cite crew, with skipper Luka Šangulin of the Biograd-based Briva Sailing Club. They were joined on the podium by the Mr. J and Gringo 3 crews and their skippers, Damir Desabota (Val Sailing Club – Šibenik) and Robert Sandalić (Uskok Sailing Club – Zadar), respectively.

The winners in the ORC B class were members of the Split-based Zenta Sailing Club on the One boat, skippered by Ante Kovačević. They were followed by the Hebe V crew, competing under the Czech flag. The latter crew ended up second overall; however, in the closed portion of the championship, second place went to the Green Pepper crew from Split’s Labud Sailing Club and their skipper Stipe Gašpić. Lastly, third place went to the Mareus II crew hailing from yet another Split-based sailing club, Spinut, and their skipper Denis Stanojević.

One of the winners, the Czech Hebe V crew, is also known for winning second place at the 2019 ORC World Championship in Šibenik.

This regatta signaled the end of the 2021 CRO ORC D-Marin Cup sailing season. The start of the next season has been scheduled for March 2022 and the competitors are already looking forward to it. For several years now, the regatta has been successfully organized in cooperation with D-Marin, the event’s general sponsor, and Šibenik’s Val Sailing Club.

D-Marin proudly sponsors both the sport of sailing and recreational yachting, thus making a positive impact on the positioning of Croatia as one of the most beautiful sailing destinations in Europe.
