CULTURE

Livorno

Designed by Bernardo Buontalenti at the end of the sixteenth century, Livorno is considered an "ideal city" of the Italian Renaissance. The city can be explored on foot, walking its streets and alleys accompanied by the cool sea breeze. The symbols of Livorno are the Fortezza Vecchia (Old Fortress), a huge complex built to protect the port, the Fortezza Nuova (New Fortress), the fortified walls and the “Venice” district, which maintains its original architectural and urban characteristics with a network of canals that used to connect the port to the warehouses and can still be romantically explored by boat.

NATURE

Elba Island

Elba stands as the largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago and holds the third position in Italy's island hierarchy, following Sardinia and Sicily. As one of the integral components of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago comprising a total of eight islands, it is the largest marine park in Europe. Renowned for hosting French Emperor Napoleon during his 1814 exile, Elba's historical roots delve even further into prehistory. As one explores the island, remnants of its illustrious past come to life, from archaeological artifacts in museums to imposing fortifications and military structures like Castello del Volterraio. The charm extends to the elegant Napoleonic residences of the 1800s, exemplified by the Palazzina dei Mulini. Yet, what truly elevates Elba to fame is its crystalline blue waters and stunning beaches.  Diving and snorkelling thrive due to Elba's rich seabed, teeming with diverse fish species. Land-based pursuits such as hiking and mountain biking find a welcoming terrain, while golf, sailing, and moments of serenity at the thermal baths of San Giovanni add to the island's allure.
